Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are award donations tax deductible?

Yes.  CM Scholarships is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, so your donation is generally tax-deductible.  Please contact your tax advisor for more information.

Does CM Scholarships charge fees?

Yes.  A fee of 10% (minimum $250) will be added to your scholarship donation. These fees are used to offset the management costs required to administer your scholarship.

How much will the awardee receive?

The awardee will receive 100% of your scholarship amount, payable to either (1) the student or (2) the student AND the school, as directed by the donor.

How are awardees selected?

Each applicant's submission can be reviewed and graded by College Matrix staff, the public, and student peers.  Awardees are selected based on (1) highest grade and (2) meeting the criteria that you, as the donor, determined.

What criteria is needed?

The award criteria are determined by the donor.  These can include areas such as financial need, military service, school specific, location, affiliation, etc.

What types of student submissions are allowed?

The media (essay, video, or audio) for the award is determined by the donor.

What is my role in the selection of an awardee?

After the scholarship is funded, no actions are needed on your part.  Unfortunately, regulations prohibit donor (including their family members, or employees) involvement in selecting an awardee.
